I am a painter and a furniture maker. I am drawn to the unknown and its imaginary line with life.
I am excited by nature, color, shape and the element of surprise. Paintings are a theater where my stories are enacted, and my dreams are mirrored.
Painting exists outside of time, ungoverned. Images come unbidden. They emerge from the fields of color revealing worlds not easily put into words. They reveal myself, and I am changed by them.
Painting is an invocation, a calling to something that has not yet arrived. It is often that when a painting is named its deeper meaning steps forward.
I am a maker of things. I spent most of my childhood outdoors and was nourished by nature and trees. As a furniture maker and sculptor I found a raw intimacy in bringing something from the live natural world into somebody’s home imprinted and shaped by my creative energy.
I grew up in Baltimore, spent 8 years living by the sea in Provincetown, Massachusetts, 13 years in Taos, New Mexico, and in 2017 returned to live and work in my hometown of Baltimore. I have loved traveling and painting in new landscapes outdoors, where the eye becomes entrained with the air, the wind, the mist, the smells, the people, the very physicality of the earth—where the gap can be closed between outside and inside through paint.
Here are some highlights that stand out.
I have shown my furniture and paintings in Baltimore, Annapolis, Easton, and Ft. Washington, Maryland, Washington DC, Art Basel-Miami Florida, New York City, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Richmond Virginia, and Taos, New Mexico.
I have been the recipient of 2 NEA grants with my cohorts The Girls of Baltimore. I have been a Fulbright Scholar Nominee. I have received 1 Maryland State Arts council award and 3 Baltimore Cityarts grants of merit for my work.
